For each vacancy, the Board selects two [2 names of individuals committed to the provision of library service. The names are submitted to the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. The State Librarian and Commissioner approve the names and send the recommendations to the local County Judge Executive. The County Judge Executive, with the approval of Fiscal Court, appoints one of the two provided names. The newly appointed trustee takes the Oath of Office before the County Judge

*Regular meetings of the board are held on the third Thursday of each month 4:30pm at the library.

Board Terms & Requirements

The Library Board is a formal, policy-setting group that sets goals and objectives that meet the community’s information needs.
Board Terms and Compensation
Except for the initial establishment or filling unexpired terms, trustees may serve for two [2] consecutive terms [four years each] after which they shall not succeed themselves for at least one [1] year.

Members of the board shall not receive compensation for their services.

Board Meetings and Attendance
The board shall meet on a regularly scheduled basis once each month.

Absence of a trustee from four regular monthly meetings of the board during one year of the trustee’s term shall constitute automatic resignation.

Conflict of Interest
No person is eligible to this office who is directly or indirectly interested in the sale to the library of books, magazines, supplies, equipment, materials, insurance, or services for which library funds are expended.

No board shall newly employ as a member of its library staff any member of the board or any person related closer than a second cousin to any member of the board.

The mission of the LaRue County Public Library is to provide materials and services for personal enrichment, enjoyment and educational needs to all county residents of all ages. This is to be done during convenient hours and in pleasant surroundings. We believe that an informed community is a strong community and the library values the opportunity to do our part.
